A student club that builds things

We're a student-run club at UWA for artificial intelligence, data science and the technology around them. Founded in early 2025, Guild-affiliated since 2026, and open to every student regardless of degree or background.

Mission

To build an inclusive, interdisciplinary community where students develop practical artificial intelligence skills, engage critically with emerging technologies, and collaborate on real-world problems relevant to industry and research.

Vision

To be a student-driven pipeline of AI talent, contributing to a university ecosystem where students confidently shape the future of artificial intelligence as thoughtful practitioners, researchers, and innovators within Australia and beyond.

What we run

Six things, roughly. Some of them run every week, some once a year.

Workshops

Beginner-friendly and technical sessions across machine learning, agentic AI, generative AI and applied systems.

Project programs

Team-based programs on industry and research problems, ending in a showcase where every team demos what they shipped.

Talks & panels

Academics, researchers and industry practitioners on what they're actually working on.

Careers events

Industry-facing sessions on where AI work exists and how students get into it.

Hackathons

Build sprints, usually run with other UWA clubs, judged leniently and on the pitch.

Socials

The part that makes the rest of it stick — the club is a community first.

How we got here

  1. Early 2025

The club is founded by a handful of students who wanted somewhere at UWA to build AI things together.

  2. Nov 2025 – Feb 2026

Summer Projects runs for 12 weeks. Around 30 students across five teams ship agentic AI systems and demo them to a judging panel.

  3. 18 March 2026

Founding AGM. The current committee is elected, and the club becomes an officially affiliated UWA Guild society for the first time.

  4. 2026

The first year as a Guild-recognised club. Workshops, panels and talks run through both semesters, and the roster of organisations behind us keeps growing.

  5. August 2026

Winter Projects closes with nine teams presenting at Bloom, and The Ultimate Hackathon draws 100+ people across 30 teams — the biggest thing the club has run.

The people currently running all of this are on the committee page. Every one of them is a student doing it around a degree.

Join the club

Open to every student at UWA, whatever you're studying and whatever you know so far. No prerequisites, no entry test, no expectation that you've done this before.
